Who doesn’t love the smell of good food coming from the kitchen? The answer to that question might be more than you want to hear. Why is that? It is because not only humans love the smells coming from your kitchen, so if you are venting all those smells to the outside through your kitchen fan, a rodent or other pest might get inspired to backtrack through the vent shaft. This is why it is important to have the vent covered. However, you shouldn’t get the idea that you would be better off without having the kitchen fan vented outside, because all the grease and moisture that is released when you cook can do a lot of damage to your home if it is left inside.
Your kitchen fan should be located directly over your stove, and it should have a vent shaft that is as straight as possible, funneling the fumes out and away from any air intakes, doors or windows.
